Porthcurno, West Cornwall Sunrise

After the previous evening at Priests Cove I returned to camp and checked out my maps to see where I would best be able to photograph a sunrise. I figured that Porthcurno near Lands End would be one of the better locations, so after getting up at 5am I got in my car and headed off to the beach to see what I could get.

Immediately I identified the  big rocks as being the foreground interest that I would use for the shot. After a number of attempts at trying to use a long exposure of the tide swirling around the rocks as the main attention of the image I decided to focus on the waves instead. Timing was then the only real challenge – capturing the wave along with the receding sea from a previous wave and motion of the water on the sand and around the rocks.

Naturally I was delighted when I managed that one special capture!

Then it was back to camp for a little bit of sleep before the evenings sunset!
